INVISTA helps flood victims in Rio, demonstrates corporate citizenship

More than 13,000 water bottles and personal hygiene items will be delivered to SOS Children's Villages in Nova Friburgo

PAULINIA, Brazil - March 15, 2011 - At the beginning of this year, heavy rains struck Rio de Janeiro, resulting in thousands of flood victims that needed aid. In response to the tragedy, INVISTA is reaching out to the families in the mountain region of Rio by donating 6,000 1.5 liter bottles of mineral water and 7,500 personal hygiene items. The items will be delivered to the SOS Children's Villages, a nonprofit organization that started in the community of Nova Friburgo.

"We were saddened by the tragedy in Rio, knowing that the flood affected so many families in this community,” said Nicésio Cascone, vice president of INVISTA Americas operations. “As a corporate citizen, we believe it is the right thing to do to help our neighbors through this contribution."

Today, the truck delivering the relief aid to the Children's Villages in Nova Friburgo will depart from INVISTA's Paulinia site. Godoy & Baptistella Group, a partner company of INVISTA, will transport the bottled water and hygiene items, such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

The non-governmental organization, SOS Children's Villages, is an international charitable entity. On account of the tragedy caused by floods in Rio de Janeiro, it installed an operation in Nova Friburgo, where it must remain for the next three years in order to improve the general conditions of children and adolescents. The program should serve about 550 children and adolescents, in addition to all the families in the community.

Kind gesture - INVISTA employees also quickly promoted a campaign within the plant to collect individual donations of bottled water and personal hygiene items. The campaign was a success, and the items were delivered to communities in Americana, Sao Paulo and Paulínia that function as donation-receiving stations for those affected by the flood.
